ATEN’s CL5708 / CL5716 Slideaway™ LCD KVMP™ Switch offers enhanced data centre security and a space-saving, streamlined approach to KVM switch technology

Taipei, Taiwan, March 06, 2009. With the CL5708, 8-Port PS/2-USB LCD KVMP™ Switch and the 16-port version CL5716, ATEN International, leading designer and manufacturer of advanced connectivity solutions, today presents the world’s first LCD KVM switch to feature optional fingerprint recognition. In addition to enhanced data centre security, the CL5708 and CL5716 provide the latest in KVM switch technology with extreme scalability, compatibility, user-friendliness and a cutting-edge design.

A single CL5708 or CL5716 Slideaway™ LCD KVMP™ (P meaning peripheral) Switch with two consoles (one bus) can control 8 or 16 servers. By daisy-chaining as many as 31 additional KVM switches, up to 512 servers can be controlled from a single KVM console. For added security, the optional fingerprint identification system can be used to control access to the CL5708 / CL5716, and all devices under its command. For this feature, an administrator and up to four user accounts can use any one of the recorded fingerprints to log in.

”The fingerprint reader feature in our new CL5708 and CL5716 adds security and user-friendliness to the server management. The administrator can choose to use either the recorded fingerprint or a password to access the KVM switch. The fingerprint reader is an alternative, more personalized means for logging into the switch, and complements the security features of the device in an excellent way.” says Kevin Chen, President of ATEN International.

As the CL5708 / CL5716 provides dual interface functionality with auto PS/2 and USB interface detection, it seamlessly supports computers and console with PS/2 or USB keyboards and mice. An additional USB port located under the LCD panel will connect peripheral devices (e.g. flash drive, CD-ROM drive) which can be used to install software, OS patches, or make system backups to computers connected to the installation. In addition, a hot-pluggable USB mouse port is provided for users who prefer to use an external mouse.

The CL5708 / CL5716 offers a space-saving, streamlined approach to KVM switch technology by integrating a 17-inch or 19-inch high-resolution LCD monitor (resolution of up to 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz), a full keyboard and a touchpad in a 1U rack-mountable sliding housing. With high flexibility design, the LCD monitor can rotate up to 115 degrees for a comfortable viewing angle.

For installation, the CL5708 / CL5716 does not require any software, and servers can be added or removed without having to power down the switch. As professional solution for multiplatform environments, the switch supports all major operating systems (Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, Mac, and Sun).

About KVM Switches – An Essential Server Management Device

A KVM (Keyboard, Video and Mouse) switch is an advanced, hardware-based solution that allows centralized access to multiple computers easily and conveniently from a single keyboard, monitor, and mouse. A KVM switch is useful in an extensive range of environments, suitable for SOHO users, small and medium businesses, and large corporations. Fundamentally, a KVM switch allows server rooms and data centers to optimize rack space in the IT environment, reducing costs and the clutter of keyboards, monitors and mice. Additional benefits include savings in energy consumption, server racks, cabinets, and floor space. Since a KVM switch provides access to a number of computers from a central location, IT professionals are no longer running from one server to the next, thereby streamlining workflow and increasing productivity. To meet the ever-developing needs of the globalized economy and the Internet, KVM solutions now have over-IP functionality for remote management capability that better fulfills the demands of corporations who need to manage multiple server rooms worldwide.
