NXP Solution Supports HD Capabilities and Enhanced Set-Top Box Functionality
NXP, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, today announced that its complete DVB-S2/MPEG-4 digital video recorder (DVR) set-top box (STB) solution has been incorporated in the latest Amstrad DRX780UK HD satellite receiver. Amstrad, a leading manufacturer of digital STBs and subsidiary of pay TV provider British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB), has selected NXP’s high-definition H.264 chipset with DVB-S2 satellite front ends to deliver advanced quality recording and playback functionality for Sky+HD customers.
“More customers than ever are joining Sky+HD, Europe’s leading high definition service. They increasingly expect access to a wide range of broadcast HD channels alongside the control and flexibility of time-shifting and on-demand services. Amstrad is able to meet this demand with NXP’s progressive and cost-effective set-top box solution that is uniquely designed to deliver these features,” said Roger Lambert, technical director, Amstrad.
“NXP is committed to providing set-top box manufacturers like Amstrad with trusted DVR solutions that enable innovation at a low cost point – reducing time to market to effectively meet demands for HD programming systems,” said Christos Lagomichos, executive vice president, business unit home, NXP Semiconductors. “By combining Amstrad’s expertise in the STB market with NXP’s support for personal video recording functionality in our chipsets, consumers increasingly have access to a feature-rich and personalized television experience.”
