Venture Capital Firm Furthers Commitment to Helping Young Entrepreneurs Innovate and Create Next Generation of Technology-Focused Companies

General Catalyst Partners, a venture capital and private equity firm that invests in exceptional entrepreneurs building technology-focused companies, today announced that Chris Hughes has joined the firm as an Entrepreneur in Residence. The co-founder of Facebook, the largest social networking site in the world with more than 175 million active users, Hughes most recently served as Director of Online Organizing for President Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and pioneered the most successful use of online campaigning through the political social networking site My.BarackObama.com.

“Chris represents the best and brightest of our country’s future. His intelligence and passion combined to launch two technology platforms that have changed our society socially and politically,” said Neil Sequeira, managing director at General Catalyst Partners. “As we continue to invest in the next generation of technology-focused entrepreneurs, Chris’ addition to our networking ecosystem will be invaluable. We remain committed to creating the most powerful and tightly knit network of executives that can learn from each other to build businesses that provide lasting value to the global economy.”

“General Catalyst is an ideal organization for young entrepreneurs to join while they are in the process of thinking about their next big idea,“ stated Chris Hughes. “Despite the opportunity to work in Silicon Valley, the firm’s unique approach and commitment to working closely with their network of entrepreneurs kept me here on the East Coast. I’m hoping many young professionals join me to help create the companies and technologies that help the United States remain at the forefront of innovation globally.”

“We’re ecstatic to welcome Chris,” added Joel Cutler, managing director and co-founder of General Catalyst Partners. “Our firm was built around the idea of entrepreneurs working with and investing in great entrepreneurs. Chris is a natural fit for our model and will be an invaluable member of our team.”

Chris is a graduate of Philips Academy Andover and Harvard College.
