National Radio Comms Network Goes Live Across Panama Using Xfin

Xfin Multisite system from Team Simoco supports mission-critical nationwide communication across 78,000 square kilometres

24 March, 2009 – A major nationwide radio communications network is now live across Panama, and uses Xfin technology from Team Simoco to ensure mission-critical communications across 78,000 square kilometres.

At this year’s International Wireless Communications Expo Team Simoco announced the successful completion of the nationwide project, which has been carried out with partner Codesa to provide resilient and reliable radio communications across the country.

As a result of the success and effectiveness of the radio system, Team Simoco and Codesa are now carrying out a major upgrade to support additional users, doubling the size and capacity of the current network.

The current 13-channel Xfin Multisite system will be expanded to over 30 channels, and will support over 200 users. The enlarged system will cover 10 sites, and Team Simoco will also be supplying an additional 100 Xfin portables to support the 200-strong user base.

The upgrade will deliver enhanced coverage in the country’s major cities of Panama, Colon and Chiriqui, along its arterial transport routes, extending from the Atlantic over to the Pacific Ocean, and from the country’s Northern provinces down through to the San Blas provinces in the South.

This is the first major Xfin portable deployment outside the UK following the launch of Team Simoco’s enhanced Xfin portable, which features CTCSS functionality and additional frequencies including 136-174MHz and 350-400MHz, in addition to the existing 400-470MHz range.

“The upgrade announcement follows a number of recent contract wins and successful Xfin and TETRA network deployments for Team Simoco across Latin America, further strengthening its credentials in the American market place.”

The Xfin Multisite provides a fully functional system controller and base station in a single, rackmount unit. It delivers voice and data communications over an IP backbone, and includes integrated telephony channel interfaces as standard, allowing dynamically allocated telephone audio to be routed over an IP network to any traffic channel.
