Time Warner Cable has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to supply and build a fully integrated, 3GPP and PacketCable 2.0 compliant IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) network. The IMS deployment will be the basis for providing next generation consumer applications that will converge Time Warner Cable’s existing voice, video and data services. Time Warner Cable is currently deploying the core infrastructure necessary for future IMS supported service launches.

“We believe that IMS is not only an exciting technology for consumers who want their devices to work together seamlessly, but it also offers us a cost effective way to reduce the overhead of managing multiple networks,” said Mike LaJoie, Chief Technology Officer at Time Warner Cable. “Nokia Siemens Networks has a proven track record with their VoIP and IMS technologies, and we are confident the additional core infrastructure will enable us to enhance the value of services like Road Runner, Digital Phone and others, rapidly and cost effectively.”

Nokia Siemens Networks is supplying its feature-rich Interrogating, Proxy and Serving Call Session Control functions (CSCF), and the world leading next-generation Home Subscriber Server (HSS) solution featuring Directory Server technology suited for Time Warner Cable’s subscriber-centric network and services evolution.

“Time Warner Cable is among the first of major operators showing that IMS is here and ready for deployment,” said Ric Herald, Head of Multi-Service Operators, North America, Nokia Siemens Networks. “The advantage of choosing Nokia Siemens Networks is that we extend our IMS portfolio to include a complete integration service capability to enable Time Warner Cable to effectively integrate new technologies into existing systems. Our forward-thinking innovation will ensure a seamless integration of new and existing technologies.”

Time Warner Cable will build upon Nokia Siemens Networks’ market leading IMS platform to enhance its already successful deployment of Nokia Siemens Networks hiQ 4200 VoIP Application Server.
