Virtual solutions offer power conservation and cost savings for the healthcare sector

Chicago, Illinois and Toronto, Ontario – April 2, 2009 – BlueCat Networks, the IPAM Intelligence Company, will demonstrate new virtual appliance offerings for its award-winning Proteus IPAM and Adonis DNS/DHCP solutions for the first time at the HIMSS09 (Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society) conference and exhibition being held from April 4-9, 2009 in Chicago (Booth 2681).

Ideal for healthcare organizations that have implemented a virtual infrastructure, the new virtual appliances enhance the market-leading IPAM and DNS/DHCP functionality of BlueCat’s existing appliance solutions by making it easier than ever before for healthcare facilities to accelerate deployment and simplify management. Healthcare facilities will now be able to rapidly provision DNS/DHCP for capacity handling and relocate DNS/DHCP services from one server to another for disaster recovery support – all without having to install any additional physical systems.

“As virtualization provides the simplest and most cost-effective method of consolidating multiple systems, BlueCat’s virtual appliances will enable healthcare organizations to greatly simplify the installation and management of IPAM and DNS/DHCP functionality to not only save costs but also ensure staff can focus on their primary objective – providing the best possible care for patients,” said Michael Hyatt, CEO & Co-Founder of BlueCat Networks. “”IPAM goes Virtual – Cut Your Costs,” is a huge focus for BlueCat and the HIMSS09 event is the perfect opportunity for us to demonstrate new appliances that will deliver significant cost savings to the healthcare sector,” Hyatt continued. “By leveraging our existing market-leading IPAM and DNS/DHCP technology BlueCat has been able to develop virtual appliances that will enable healthcare facilities to simultaneously save power, reduce operating costs and accelerate deployment.”

The proliferation of IP-enabled devices, such as VoIP phones, RFID and wireless, as well as critical medical devices, is making it impossible for the healthcare industry to continue managing IP addresses with spreadsheets and homegrown solutions. BlueCat’s market-leading solutions integrate with Microsoft’s Active Directory to completely eliminate network accessibility problems by making it simple and secure to centrally deploy, manage, monitor and audit IP addresses across an entire organization from a single web-based interface.

HIMSS09 is expected to attract about 30,000 attendees, ranking it as one of the largest healthcare IT and management systems conferences in the world. Attendees participate in education sessions and networking events, in addition to visiting the exhibits. The conference includes more than 300 education sessions plus pre-conference education sessions with symposia on clinical engineering, financial systems, nursing informatics, payers, pharmacy IT, physicians’ IT, regional health information organizations (RHIOs), and supply chain management. Two new workshops have been added for HIMSS09, focusing on human capital and interoperability.

The Interoperability Showcase includes cutting-edge technology and standards demonstrations focused on interoperability in an interactive environment. With electronic health records becoming reality on the exhibit floor, attendees will be able to create, track and manage virtual electronic health records and personal health records as they experience interoperability advances across both acute and outpatient care environments.

Keynote speakers at HIMSS09 include Dennis Quaid, award-winning actor, director and founder of the Quaid Foundation; George C. Halverson, chairman and chief executive officer of the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Alan Greenspan, Economist and former chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.
