Next-Generation, End-to-End LTE Solutions Showcased at CTIA 2009

New Delhi, India, April 2, 2009 – ZTE USA, Inc., a subsidiary of ZTE Corporation, a leading global telecommunications equipment and network solutions provider, today unveiled its LTE strategy for the North American market at CTIA Wireless 2009. With a Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform-based UMTS solution already developed and devices expected in the next 12-18 months, ZTE is positioned to provide end-to-end solutions for North American operators looking to deploy LTE in the near future. ZTE is also showcasing a range of next-generation, integrated LTE solutions at the conference.

Several LTE solutions will be exhibited, including ZTE’s FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE, full-IP platform-based FMC core network and SAE EPC. LTE wireless services and SDR-based multi-mode base stations will also be shown onsite and further demonstrate ZTE’s capabilities in providing comprehensive and fully integrated solutions for GSM/CDMA, UMTS/EV-DO and LTE.

To address the North American market where many operators will transition from CDMA to LTE, ZTE will exhibit a dual mode BBU (Base Band Unit) for CDMA and LTE at the show. With the dual mode BBU solution, ZTE will conduct a “live-air” CDMA demonstration in the AWS spectrum. A 10MHz wide LTE channel will also be “hard-wired” showing the lighting speed of LTE.

ZTE’s LTE solutions are designed for the unified management and seamless operation of the current 2G and 3G networks. They offer carriers a smooth transition to LTE networks, which will help carriers to lower network deployment and operating costs. To date, carriers in major markets such as Hong Kong, India and Mainland China have widely adopted and successfully deployed ZTE’s SDR. ZTE’s SDR platform-based UMTS solution is the first in the industry that fulfils the HSPA+ trialing and testing applications.

“ZTE is uniquely positioned to help the global wireless industry smoothly transition into the next-generation communications era. The North American market is a bright spot for ZTE, as we provide an end-to-end solution for LTE with innovative, state-of-the-art options for infrastructure and terminals,” said Dr. George Sun, CEO, ZTE USA. “We anticipate widespread commercial adoption of LTE in the North American market in late 2010. In the meantime, we can help telecom operators prepare for the successful transition with LTE in a market where various systems currently co-exist. ZTE gives them a solution that works now and in the future.”

ZTE recently invested in building a new R & D facility and production base in Xi’an, China, which will be primarily focused on creating new LTE solutions for its handset business and initiating research on post-3G technology advancements.
