CA NAMES DR. AJEI S. GOPAL TO LEAD ENTERPRISE SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT BUSINESS UNIT

Industry Veteran to Head CA’s Largest Business

Mumbai, August 3, 2006 ? CA (NYSE:CA) today named Dr. Ajei S. Gopal as senior vice president and general manager of its Enterprise Systems Management (ESM) business unit, effective immediately. He succeeds Alan F. Nugent, who recently was named CA’s chief technology officer (CTO), and will report to Russell M. Artzt, CA’s executive vice president of products.

Gopal joins CA from Symantec Corp., where as executive vice president and CTO, he was the global technology leader for the company, responsible for strategy, investments in emerging technologies, including the Symantec Research Labs, and the development of the patent portfolio. He also led cross-product shared services, such as localization and usability, and was responsible for managing the company’s significant technical and product operations in India and in China. Earlier at Symantec, he was responsible for the Compliance business unit, and oversaw business development and mergers and acquisitions.

At CA, he will focus on extending the Company’s leadership position in managing systems, networks, databases and applications for mainframe and distributed environments. ESM is CA’s largest business unit.

“Ajei’s significant industry expertise and proven management track record make him a tremendous addition to the CA team,” said Artzt. “His business experience and effectiveness in leading corporate R&D initiatives will be particularly valuable as CA continues to deliver on its vision for Enterprise IT Management.”

Prior to Symantec, Gopal was chief executive officer and a board member of ReefEdge Networks, Inc., a wireless LAN systems vendor that he co-founded. Earlier, he was chief technology officer for IBM’s Pervasive Computing Division, where his responsibilities included product and technology strategy, product architecture and development, and technology partnerships. He also worked in the research division at IBM, where he conducted and managed research in the areas of systems management, distributed and clustered systems, and operating systems.

“I am extremely excited about joining CA and assuming the hands-on operational responsibilities for one of the Company’s most dynamic business units,” said Gopal. “CA has consistently demonstrated global industry leadership in this critical market, which continues to be of prime concern to IT organizations as their computing environments keep growing in size and complexity.”

Gopal began his career as a member of the technical staff in the Applied Research Division at Bell Communications Research. The author of more than 20 U.S. patents, he earned a doctorate degree in computer science from Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology.
