The Robert H. and Beverly A. Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder has been ranked once again in the top 20 business school programs by U.S. News and World Report.

The Deming Center for Entrepreneurship moved up three spots from last year to share 17th place with two other universities for its graduate school entrepreneurship program for the 2009-10 academic year. The Deming Center has been ranked among the top 20 programs nationally for the last decade.

Within entrepreneurship, the Deming Center builds on a strong core education in business fundamentals, supplementing that with curriculum designed specifically for the entrepreneur, such as entrepreneurial finance and business planning classes. Deming also draws on the strength of the dynamic business community to provide students with experience working with innovative entrepreneurial firms.

“We are enormously pleased to have received this recognition and acknowledge of the strength of our graduate entrepreneurship program,” said Paul Jerde, executive director of the Robert H. and Beverly a Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at the Leeds School of Business. “It is a tribute to the quality of our students, the excellence of our faculty and doctoral program, and to the unparalleled support and engagement of our entrepreneurial business community.

The Deming Center has established a focus area in Sustainable Venturing in partnership with the Boulder region’s strong cleantech and natural products industries. Through projects, business plan competitions, mentorships and internships, students gain an in-depth understanding of how these new fields are emerging and changing the playing field for business.

“I think it’s terrific to be held in the same ranks as the University of Michigan and Carnegie Mellon University,” said Dean Dennis Ahlburg, citing the two universities with which Deming shared the new ranking.
