Midrange Performance Group announced today the general availability of Performance Navigator®, Version 14, for the IBM i® platform. Now in its 11th year of availability, PerfNav® Version 14 embraces all the new IBM hardware announcements for the IBM i® platform which were made public today. New hardware supported in PerfNav includes new Power 6+ processor models, blade processors, the new SAS disk controllers, and support for Solid State Disk (SSD). MPG’s proprietary What-If® technology supports modeling of current workloads from down-rev servers to these new technologies to help determine the performance effect(s) of investing in new processors, controllers and SSD. MPG believes that the increasing complexity and price/performance of the IBM Power Systems offering, coupled with the current economic environment, will mean increased evaluation and review of options as customers look for modernization of their infrastructure and implement cost reduction programs.

PerfNav Version 14 introduces several new functions and features for the day-to-day management of data center servers, including more than 20 new graphs and reports. Of particular interest to Systems Administrators will be the four new Current Day Graphs, which support “drill-down” capability to help with problem determination. Several new scripts provide analysis summaries for DASD, ODBC, response time, service level, and an Enterprise Performance Overview covering all resources in an enterprise.

MPG is also introducing a new pricing model with Version 14 which permits customers to select either an “All-LAPR” Entitlement, or simply the “Standard” Entitlement of LPARs 1,2, and 3. The large majority of customers will require only the Standard Entitlement.
