New Delhi, April 28, 2009 – Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE:ALU) today announced that C-DOT Alcatel-Lucent Research Centre (CARC), a leading WiMAX network solutions provider for high growth markets, has received the WiMAX Forum Certified™ seal of approval for the 2.5GHz band version of its 500 Series family of Indoor customer premises equipment (CPE) reference designs. CARC’s Mobile WiMAX certification will bring ironclad assurances on inter-operability with infrastructure for this category of low-cost CPE, thus speeding uptake of wireless broadband services, especially in high-growth economies.

“We are thrilled to have achieved this feat, as this cements CARC’s on-going efforts towards bringing in open standard low cost CPEs designs to the mobile WiMAX ecosystem,” commented Sridhar Venkatesh, CEO of CARC. “The robust performance and the cost-effective design of the certified CPEs make them ideal to expand broadband and voice communications in both rural and urban markets.”

CARC’s 500 Series family of indoor CPEs reference design is based upon the SQN1130 chip from Sequans Communications, a leading WiMAX chipmaker. “Sequans has worked with CARC since the very early days of WiMAX. We value our partnership given CARC’s ability to accelerate broadband and voice penetration in emerging markets through their low-cost CPE portfolio,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO.

From conception, CARC CPEs have been designed to cost-effectively expand the reach of telecommunications for global markets. CARC’s deep expertise in radio and advanced antenna capabilities means network operators require fewer cell sites to cover a larger geographical area. Besides MIMO functionality, the CPEs also support beam forming, thus offering greater flexibility in a variety of deployment scenarios.

CARC’s family of reference design product includes indoor and outdoor CPE, as well as USB dongles to meet the diverse needs of the WiMAX end-user device market. Design development is closely integrated with WiMAX infrastructure development at the CARC R&D facility, resulting in a seamless introduction of the end-user devices into a commercial operator’s end-to-end network.
