USPTO’s Final Ruling Rejects PCTEL Inc.’s (PCTI) Priority Claim for Clarify Over Wider Networks’ WIND 3G Technology
The US Patent Office (USPTO) has confirmed Wider Networks’ patent on Wider’s proprietary WIND 3G drive-test data collection solution for the cellular industry, rejecting PCTEL Inc.’s bid to have the patent invalidated upon re-examination.
Wider Networks patent number 6,754,487 withstood the challenge from PCTEL and all 13 claims of Wider Networks’ original WIND 3G patent have been confirmed and remain in force. PCTEL previously announced that the USPTO had “rejected” Wider Networks’ patent, but this “rejection” was merely preliminary. In its final determination, the USPTO upheld Wider Networks’ patent over PCTEL’s patent.
Comments Wider Networks’ co-founder and COO Simon Linder, “We are delighted that the USPTO has confirmed our patent, as we expected they would. This episode has exposed PCTEL’s actions for what they are: an obvious ploy to put the brakes on a smaller, nimbler competitor.”
Wider Networks’ latest RF solution, WIND 3G, has a new upgrade version currently under development, which is expected to be officially released during the 2nd quarter of 2009. The new version will improve the detection sensitivity for WCDMA measurements and speed up the measurement rate in GSM by up to 40%.
About Wider Networks
Wider Networks designs and develops data collection and optimization solutions for the wireless industry. Its WIND 3G wireless detection system is a GSM and WCDMA drive-test solution that captures accurate network power measurements in the presence of high levels of interference and pilot pollution. The superior accuracy of WIND 3G data over other prediction and measurement technologies enables operators to troubleshoot and increase the efficiency of their GSM and WCDMA networks, significantly cutting costs and improving call quality. WIND 3G technology is protected by two patents (US patent numbers 6,754,487 and 7,301,920) Wider Network’s solutions are sold worldwide through direct and indirect channels.
