The MIT Enterprise Forum of New York City (MITEF-NYC) is pleased to announce an event for entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders interested in learning about Market Demand and Entrepreneurial Opportunities for a Second Generation of SaaS (www.mitef-nyc.org). The event will take place on May 28, 2009 between 6:00p and 9:00p at Microsoft’s Manhattan offices, 1290 Avenue of the Americas, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10104.

Since the late 1990s, the promise of SaaS for businesses has been to maximize business process quality and productivity with minimized IT departmental capex and personnel. With some notable exceptions, big successes have been rare. Nevertheless, in the midst of an `economic perfect storm`, market demand for the promise is greater than ever.

“Intensified market demand, along with enabling technological innovations such as cloud computing and Web 2.0, are igniting entrepreneurial efforts to deliver the promise of SaaS in a second generation, SaaS 2.0,” asserts Alan Mitchell, President of ARMAK & Associates and the event’s moderator. “I’m excited that we will be getting diverse perspectives on market demand and entrepreneurial opportunities from five expert panelists, representing Microsoft, Google, two start-ups, and an investment banking firm,” continues Mitchell.

The panelists are Harry Patz, VP – Microsoft, Scott Johnston, Senior Product Manager – Google, Duke Chung, CEO – Parature, Frank Fawzi, CEO – IntelePeer, and Ben Boissevian, Managing Partner – Agile Equity. In addition to their 15-minute presentations, ample opportunities will exist for networking and inquiries during the 30-minute opening reception, the Q&A session that follows panelists’ presentations, and an informal networking wrap-up to the event.
