Proteus IPAM solution awarded an ‘A’ grade for “powerful tracking of internal IP addresses” and “allowing an administrator to get a grasp on the entire network”
Toronto, Ontario, May 14, 2009 – BlueCat Networks, the IPAM Intelligence CompanyT, today announced that its Proteus 5000 IP address management (IPAM) solution has been named “Reviewer’s Choice” by Government Computer News (GCN). GCN awards “Reviewer’s Choice” to products that average in the ‘A’ grade range in four categories: Performance, ease of use, features and value.
The review, available on the GCN website at http://gcn.com/articles/2009/05/04/gcn-lab-review-bluecat-proteus-5000.aspx, states that Proteus simplifies the tracking of IP addresses and DHCP leases – which is becoming an increasingly difficult task as the number of devices accessing the network increases.
“In days gone by, all an administrator needed for keeping track of [IP] addresses in the network was a simple spreadsheet,” writes Greg Crowe, Technology Analyst at Government Computer News in his review. “But networks have become larger and more complex, requiring more powerful tools,” Crowe continued. “The Proteus IP Address Management platform from BlueCat Networks is just that sort of tool.”
Proteus is also recognized for simplifying and automating routine IP-related tasks which the review states will, “allow an administrator to get a grasp on the entire network.”
As part of the 1105 Government Information Group, the leading provider of integrated information and media for the government information technology market, GCN also references Proteus’ DNSSEC functionality, which is becoming an increasingly important focus for U.S. government agencies.
“One capability of the Proteus platform of interest to federal agencies is it’s [Proteus'] support for DNS Security Extensions, the cryptographic authentication functionality all agencies are required to add to their DNS servers by December 2009,” writes Crowe. “With this capability, access to an agency’s DNS server monitored by Proteus will be denied without the correct electronic signature,” Crowe continued. “DNSSEC is quite a hot topic in the federal arena, which could make Proteus attractive.”
“As an early adopter of DNSSEC technology, the U.S. government is an important market for BlueCat’s innovative technology,” said Michael Hyatt, co-founder & CEO, BlueCat Networks. “GCN is highly respected for providing objective and knowledgeable IT information that government agencies can trust,” Hyatt continued. “As a result, it is extremely rewarding for BlueCat’s IPAM and DNS/DHCP technology to receive such a glowing endorsement from such a respected government resource.”
BlueCat’s market-leading physical and virtual appliances integrate with BlueCat’s own Adonis DNS/DHCP appliances and Microsoft Windows DNS and DHCP to completely eliminate network accessibility problems by making it simple and secure to centrally deploy, manage, monitor and audit the fast-growing number of IP addresses across an entire organization from a single web-based interface.
