IBM Named in Analyst Firm’s Leaders Quadrant for Enterprise Application Servers

IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Gartner, Inc. has positioned IBM in the Leaders Quadrant in their 2Q06 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Servers (EAS)*. According to Gartner, Leaders are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.

IBM WebSphere Application Server was positioned in the Leaders quadrant for distributed transaction processing for EAS. Since WebSphere Application Server is based on open standards, the software enables customers to more easily integrate with existing systems, regardless of the underlying technology. An open standards-based approach can result in greater efficiencies and reduced costs. Using WebSphere Application Server as part of a service-oriented architecture (SOA) strategy enables companies of all sizes to efficiently build flexible IT infrastructures that allow them to respond quickly to new market conditions and opportunities.

“We believe Gartner’s latest research illustrates IBM’s commitment to its customers and partners in delivering quality software products that serve as the cornerstone of a successful service-oriented architecture,” said Sandy Carter, vice president, SOA and WebSphere strategy, channels and marketing, IBM. “The latest EAS magic quadrant positions WebSphere Application Server in the leaders quadrant based on IBM’s ability to execute and its completeness of vision.”

IBM offers the industry’s most comprehensive portfolio of software, services and hardware dedicated to ensuring the success of customers and partners as they more closely align IT and business goals through an SOA. In fact, the industry demand for SOA led to IBM WebSphere realizing 17 percent growth in Q2, marking 32 consecutive quarters of growth for this integration middleware brand.
