Site Devoted to Local Swimming Creates Online Hub for D.C-Area Athletes and Fans

The Washington Post launches reachforthewall.com, a new site focused on Washington, D.C.-area swim leagues that combines reporting from The Washington Post with a wiki platform, creating a deeply engaging forum for swim teams, athletes and parents to participate in.

“Swimming has always been a competitive sport in the Washington area and its prominence has grown with the successes of its athletes. Building a new site focused entirely on swimming allows us to expand our coverage and connect with this community,” said Emilio Garcia-Ruiz, Local editor for The Washington Post.

Led by sports reporter Amy Shipley, reachforthewall.com will provide up-to-date coverage and analysis of local swimming, beginning with today’s in-depth look at why families across the country are relocating to our area so their children can swim for NBAC swim club, which boasts members like Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff.

In addition to updated news and fully sortable and searchable results from across the D.C. metro area, reachforthewall.com features customizable team pages that are open, unmoderated, wikis, which means registered users can contribute and edit content or upload their own photos and video. This brings local swim families and fans together, giving them a place to converse and post their thoughts and observations on the latest meet results.

“We’re excited to have readers weigh in on local swimming and take part in the ongoing dialogue through the editable team pages on reachforthewall.com,” said Matt Vita, Sports editor for The Washington Post. “This type of open forum is essential to creating a fun, informative community for users.”
