The Foreign Policy Association (FPA) will resume its John B. Hurford Memorial Lecture Series with a lecture on the “The Future of U.S. Policy in Iraq” by Richard J. Schmierer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State at the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, on Monday, June 29, 2009 at the headquarters of Scholastic, Inc.

Mr. Schmierer will present a brief overview of U.S. policy in Iraq and explain the direction it will take in the coming months as U.S. troops withdraw.

The John B. Hurford Memorial Lecture series was inaugurated in 2002 in memory of John B. Hurford, a devoted Director of the Foreign Policy Association. The series is supported by the Hurford Foundation and features individuals who represent critical new thinking in international affairs and foreign policy. Past speakers include: Ambassador Ronald Neumann, President, American Academy of Diplomacy and Robert Hormats, Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs (International), Managing Director, Goldman, Sachs & Co.
