Level 3 Solutions to Connect ImClone’s North American and European Operations

Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: LVLT) today announced that it is expanding the communications services it provides ImClone Systems, a global biopharmaceutical company that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company.

Under the contract, Level 3 – which currently provides data transport services to ImClone – will deliver colocation, Internet access and Internet-based private network services (IP VPN) to ImClone’s locations in New York City; Branchburg, N.J.; Bridgewater, N.J.; and Heidelberg, Germany, as well as ImClone’s North American data center in Newark, N.J., and European data center in Frankfurt, Germany. To deliver these services, Level 3 will expand its fiber network to directly connect to ImClone’s two New Jersey locations and the NYC location.

“We chose Level 3 because they deliver the scalable solutions we require as our bandwidth requirements continue to grow,” said Stephen Davies, vice president of information technology for ImClone Systems. “As our international researchers pursue advances in oncology care, we need to be able to quickly transport large files between our U.S. and German locations, and Level 3’s fiber-optic network allows us to do just that.”

ImClone Systems is committed to advancing oncology care by developing and commercializing a portfolio of targeted biologic treatments designed to address the medical needs of patients with a variety of cancers.

“Level 3’s expansive fiber network is ideally suited to industries like healthcare that are witnessing constant and significant increases in bandwidth requirements,” said Jeff Tench, president of Level 3’s Business Markets Group. “The expansion of our relationship with ImClone is a great example of how Level 3’s international backbone, extensive metro fiber footprint and localized customer support organization combine to deliver tremendous value to enterprises.”
