TELECOM
“The telecom industry in India is witnessing prolific growth and rural development can no longer be ignored. With this view, we welcome the allocation of Rs.2400 crore to the USOF as it augurs well for penetration of telecom services in rural India. We are hopeful of seeing the telecom industry focus strongly on the rural markets, with technologies like 3G and broadband, which will help in closing on the country’s teledensity objectives and significantly enhance GDP growth. In this context, it is a positive sign that the budget acknowledges the importance of Foreign Direct Investments and Public Private Partnerships in the telecom sector, which are extremely important for the growth and expansion plans of several players.”
POWER
“We are glad to see a lot of encouragement for public private partnerships in the power industry. Moves like commercial bank loans for PPP projects and fund allocation for The Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme, which aims to reduce the gap between power demand and supply are few welcome moves by the government. However, witnessing the current power crisis all over the country, we wish that the government quickly acts upon the creation of the National Power Grid mentioned in the XIth Plan.”
