Huawei upholds ‘Broadband for Digital Democracy and Inclusive Growth” at the 5th ASSOCHAM Global Telecom Summit 2009

Bangalore, July 23, 2009 – At the 5th ASSOCHAM Global Telecom Summit 2009, Huawei in coherence with the telecom industry and the government encouraged the development of ‘Broadband for digital democracy and inclusive growth’. In his address, Mr. Weimin Yao, Senior Vice President (Global) – Huawei Telecommunications India made the following commitments for the successful proliferation of broadband in India:
– Investment of more than $4bn in the last 5 years in R&D to develop customized rural solutions for the Indian market
– Creating solutions at the right price points for the Indian rural customer, with ARPU of $2 achieved through the outdoor base stations and power efficient solutions that keep – OPEX at lowest levels and save TCO by more than 35%
– Alternate sources of energy with solar, wind, bio-fuels and by hybrid systems that are ready to be deployed on a mass scale
– Contribution to bridging digital divide through e-enabled education with an active proposal for sponsoring broadband connectivity to schools

Mr. A Sethuraman, Executive Director- Huawei Telecommunications India, in his panel discussion on ‘Building and delivering a cost effective broadband model’ said, ‘Our telecom solutions address the key challenges for broadband proliferation faced by Indian operators.
