ADTRAN Continues Market Leadership in TDM Delivery over Next-Generation Ethernet Access Network
ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced that Walnut Communications serving west central Iowa, has selected the Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform (MSAP) for next-generation access and Ethernet transport throughout its network.
“Walnut Communications needed a unique and innovative solution to help them transition to next-generation technologies without stranding an established customer base, and ADTRAN delivered with the Total Access 5000”
Walnut will utilize ADTRAN’s enhanced Pseudowire Emulation Edge to End (PWE3) technology via the Total Access 5000 for TDM service delivery and Ethernet transport over fiber. This will allow Walnut Communications to transition its access infrastructure to a next-generation architecture, while maintaining the ability to fully support TDM T1 applications where needed. Walnut will also utilize the Total Access 5000’s eSHDSL capabilities to provide high-bandwidth services to local businesses using Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) for Ethernet service delivery.
“Our plan was to select an Ethernet-based multi-service platform to start our transformation from legacy TDM to an all-Ethernet network,” said Brian Trader, IP Technician, Walnut Communications. “There were a number of legacy SONET-based systems as well as Ethernet-only systems, which did not fit the bill. ADTRAN’s Total Access 5000 was the only true Ethernet MSAP that addressed all of our needs in a carrier-class chassis design. With the Total Access 5000 we can address hi-caps, business needs, and eventually add POTS and ADSL2+, as we displace our legacy network. Being able to support all of these services from a single platform saves us operational expenses over the long haul.”
“Walnut Communications needed a unique and innovative solution to help them transition to next-generation technologies without stranding an established customer base, and ADTRAN delivered with the Total Access 5000,” said P. Steven Locke, vice president of sales, service providers, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “This is one of the most versatile solutions on the market today. Service providers looking for a means to expand services and grow new revenue will find that the Total Access 5000 is perfect for almost any network architecture.”
The ADTRAN Total Access 5000 is a carrier class multi-service access and aggregation platform that bridges the gap between existing and next-generation networks. With an all-Ethernet core, the Total Access 5000 supports both legacy and emerging service interfaces over copper and fiber, easily scaling to support bandwidth-intensive applications. This scalable Ethernet architecture allows carriers to use the Total Access 5000 to address both legacy and next-generation services economically while providing a seamless path toward a converged network.
