Users to enjoy faster downlink speeds of up to 18.2 Mbps
Bangalore, 30 July, 2009: Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions worldwide, today announced that, it has recorded the fastest downlink speeds on a HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access) commercial network, according to publicly available information. At its peak, the “live” demonstration conducted by Huawei on the commercial network of Singapore info-communications provider, StarHub, was able to deliver a single-user desktop downlink speed of 18.2 Mbps – a significant industry milestone in the realization of the theoretical peak rate of 21 Mbps offered by current HSPA+ technology.
The demonstration, held recently in Singapore, was conducted in a real-world environment on StarHub’s commercial network. The network was commercially-deployed by Huawei in March 2009, and harnesses the latest in mobile broadband technology, including the higher order modulation 64QAM scheme, to boost downlink speeds by 50 percent.
Mr. Chan Kin Hung, Head of Products and Solutions at StarHub, said: “This latest demonstration marks another milestone in StarHub’s mission to provide every person, home and business in Singapore with world-class multimedia service and content, and reinforces our leadership in the commercial deployment of HSPA+ technology. We are pleased to have partnered Huawei to achieve this success, and are confident that our cooperation will enable us to further enhance the mobile broadband experience for the consumer.”
Mr. He Gang, Vice President of Huawei’s Wireless Product Line, said: “We are honoured to have supported StarHub in the deployment of their HSPA+ commercial network, and in doing so, contributing to the provision of cutting-edge mobile broadband services to consumers. While the mobile broadband industry is constantly evolving, Huawei’s
promise to our customers remains unchanged. We are committed to driving industry development and delivering sustainable business success through our customer-centric innovation, and operators around the world have given us their vote of confidence by selecting us as their partner.”
As a leader in HSPA+ technology, Huawei has been awarded 10 HSPA+ commercial contracts to date, and has successfully deployed HSPA+ networks for major operators such as StarHub, PCCW and O2..
