CHICAGO – (August, 3, 2008) – Towers Productions, Inc. (TPI), the Chicago-based producer of factual and entertainment programming, was chosen as this year’s Honoree for the IFP/Chicago 2009 Independent Film Gala in celebration of TPI’s twentieth anniversary and the company’s dedication to production in the Midwest.
IFP/Chicago’s third annual Independent Film Gala will be held at theWIT Hotel, Chicago’s newest luxury boutique hotel, Friday, September 25, 2009.
Founded in 1989 with an investment of $10,000 by Jonathan Towers, now the Company’s Chief Creative Officer, TPI has grown into one of the nation’s leading independent production houses. Since its inception, TPI has produced over 1000 hours of programming for clients and partners that include A&E, Animal Planet, Bio – Biography Channel, CNN, Discovery Channel, Food Network, History, ID: Investigation Discovery, HDNet, Lifetime, Military Channel, MSNBC, NBC, National Geographic Channel, PBS, TLC, Travel Channel, truTV, Versus, WE, The Weather Channel and WGN.
“We are thrilled with the recognition from IFP/Chicago and thank the members of this fine organization for their dedicated efforts to support Chicago’s independent film community,” said Jonathan Towers. “When I started this company, my hope was to participate in the revolution known as cable television in some small way. Two decades later, I’m delighted to report that we’re a major force in the industry, one of Chicago’s largest employers in the TV business, and that we continue to grow.”
American Justice, the first award-winning major success for Towers, debuted on A&E in 1992. In 1993, Towers was nominated for a National Emmy Award for Investigative Journalism as well as the CableAce Award for documentary writing. In 1998, Crain’s Chicago Business magazine named Towers one of the city’s top “40 under 40” business leaders. Recently, TPI was nominated for a Prime Time Emmy Award for the four-part mini-series Inside 9/11 (produced for the National Geographic Channel), named to the Real Screen Global 100, and honored with a Hugo Award from the Chicago Film Festival.
In January of 2009, the Company was restructured to create three new operating companies, which focus on television production, post-production and media services, and equipment rentals. All three companies are subsidiaries of the newly-constituted Towers Holdings, Inc.
In its twentieth anniversary year, TPI has nearly one hundred hours of programming in production, including series and specials for Bio – Biography Channel, Discovery Channel, ID – Investigation Discovery, History, National Geographic Channel and WE.
