San Francisco, CA – Spaceweather today released an innovative iPhone app to help sky watchers experience the annual Perseid meteor shower, which peaks this year on August 11th and 12th. The app counts down the days to the shower’s peak, offers breaking news alerts, an easy-to-use sky map, and a live photo gallery populated with meteor photos from around the world. It’s like having an entire meteor shower in your pocket!
Because of the live gallery, you can use the app to watch the shower even if you personally are clouded out. A global network of Spaceweather photographers will send their images directly to the iPhone gallery while the shower is underway.
Perseids 1.0 is a collaborative effort of Spaceweather and LizzardWerks, an independent iPhone developer based in San Francisco, Calif. The Perseids represents the firm’s first foray into the iPhone market.
