Leading India-based Telecom Industry Publication Recognizes Company’s Market Leadership for Third Consecutive Year

New Delhi, August. 9, 2009 – UTStarcom, Inc. (Nasdaq: UTSI) was recognized by Voice&Data magazine as the No. 1 company in the India broadband equipment market at this year’s V&D100 Telecom Awards. Voice&Data, India’s leading telecom Industry publication, ranked UTStarcom as the leader in the broadband infrastructure category. UTStarcom South Asia Managing Director Vijay Yadav received the award at the ceremony held at ITC Maurya in New Delhi. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman J. S. Sarma was the chief guest at the event.

“This is a proud moment for us at UTStarcom to be recognized as a leader in the broadband space by Voice&Data for the third year in a row”, Yadav said. “We believe India’s broadband growth will continue and are committed to playing an instrumental role in ushering in the country’s broadband revolution. Indian consumers are continuously requesting these advanced services, and UTStarcom will continue to offer next-generation technology to India’s service providers to assist them in supplying that demand.”
According to the V&D 100, Voice&Data’s industry analysis for fiscal year 2008 – 2009, UTStarcom significantly led the broadband infrastructure sector in India with an estimated 38 percent growth in revenue. The V&D 100 analysis also estimated UTStarcom’s broadband market share at 29.5 percent. The company rankings are derived from exhaustive surveys and market analysis.

The V&D award is the most recent in a series of award wins for the company in India. Last month, UTStarcom was named the “Best Broadband System Integrator Company” in India by INFOCOM CMAI. In 2008, VARIndia named UTStarcom the “Most Trusted Company” in India in the areas of broadband and IPTV leadership in 2008; and the Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association (TEMA) in India recognized UTStarcom with the “Excellence in Telecom Services and Solutions” award for the company’s innovation and direct impact on India’s telecom market growth.

UTStarcom’s market position in India reflects the company’s continued leadership and commitment to critical projects in the country, such as the BSNL multiplay deployment. The contract was extended in May 2009 to deploy B1000 multi-service access node (MSAN) solution throughout India to add approximately 475,000 ports of capacity to BSNL’s existing broadband network. UTStarcom pioneered IPTV deployments with Aksh Optifibre, Bharti Airtel and MTNL and also contributed towards other key broadband initiatives coinciding with the India government’s 2007 “Year of Broadband” campaign.
