Aug. 16 Issue to Feature a T First: Five Double Covers

T: The New York Times Style Magazine will commemorate its fifth anniversary with a party on Sept. 16, during New York Fashion Week (Sept. 10-17), at The Standard, New York, the latest hotel from André Balazs, located near the start of the High Line in Manhattan. Stefano Tonchi, editor of T Magazine, will host the party along with Jeff Koons, the contemporary artist and creator of one of the 10 special anniversary T covers; Simon Doonan, the creative director of Barneys New York; Carey Mulligan, star of the forthcoming film “An Education” and cover model for the Women’s Fashion Fall 2009 issue; and Denise Warren, senior vice president and chief advertising officer, The New York Times Media Group, and general manager, NYTimes.com. The guest list will include many of the celebrities and personalities featured in the Magazine as well as luminaries from the world of fashion, art and design. Admission is by invitation only.

“We are delighted to commemorate T’s success and influence in the world of fashion, travel and design,” said Mr. Tonchi. “We celebrate five years of great contributions to style and offer many thanks to the celebrities, advertisers, writers and photographers who have made T, the T Web site and T International so successful worldwide.”

To kick off the anniversary, the Aug. 16 issue of T will feature five separate double covers. One series of covers will commemorate the anniversary and feature the iconic T logo as reimagined by five internationally recognized artists: Frank Gehry, Jenny Holzer, Mr. Koons, Doug and Mike Starn and Francesco Vezzoli. The other set of covers will feature Ms. Mulligan on the Women’s Fashion issue in one of five personas created by fashion designers Alber Elbaz, Nicholas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Stefano Pilati and Miuccia Prada. The 10 unique covers are a first for T, as it brings together the talents of these renowned artists and fashion designers for this one-of-a-kind global celebration.

Inside T, editor at large Lynn Hirschberg profiles Ms. Mulligan and discusses the actress’s desire to be in film from the time she was six, to her splash at the Sundance Film Festival last January. Her performance in “An Education,” which opens in the United States on Oct. 9, has drawn raves and comparisons to Audrey Hepburn.

The Aug. 16 issue will be distributed at the party, along with the Sept. 13 Men’s Fashion Fall issue, in a commemorative totebag designed exclusively for T’s fifth anniversary by the acclaimed fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Mr. Lagerfeld’s Chanel-inspired T logo will appear on the tote and also in the Magazine at the beginning of the editorial pages in the August issue of T and T International. T’s anniversary will also be celebrated during the Milan Fashion Week (Sept. 23 to 30) and the Paris Fashion Week (Oct. 1 to 8).

T Magazine is distributed in the Sunday New York Times. The five artist-designed issues will be available for purchase at The New York Times Store, which can be reached at 800-671-4332 or at nytstore.com.
