Growing Local Shopping Website Will Deliver Customers to Businesses and Millions in Savings to Consumers Through the Power of Group Purchasing

Groupon (http://www.groupon.com), a shopping website offering a daily deal on the best local goods, services, events, and culture, will launch in Phoenix on August 17.

Groupon negotiates unprecedented deals with top businesses through its new spin on e-commerce: collective buying. On Groupon, deals are only activated if a minimum number of people agree to buy. By guaranteeing businesses a large number of new customers, Groupon creates a win-win for local merchants and consumers.

Phoenix will be Groupon’s thirteenth city. Since its Chicago launch in November 2008, Groupon has delivered millions in revenue to local businesses while saving its 500,000 subscribers more than $11 million.

“Groupon brings buyers and sellers together in a fun and collaborative way that offers the consumer a great deal that they can’t get anywhere else and delivers sales directly to the merchant,” said Groupon founder Andrew Mason.

During its first week in Phoenix, featured businesses will include popular restaurants, a rock-climbing gym and a nail salon. Groupon subscribers receive free daily emails alerting them to the offers and often use social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter to share the deals with family and friends in each city.
