World’s Leading Utility Technology Association to Feature Google PowerMeter Expert, Technology Futurist at International Conference

Utilimetrics, the world’s premier utility technology association, will feature 80 speakers including a leading technology futurist, and a former astronaut now prominent physicist from Google, at Autovation® 2009.

Autovation® 2009 is four days of education, networking and exhibits on leading practices for smart grid, smart metering, enterprise-technology solutions and tools for business transformation for the connected utility. It will take place Sept. 13 – 16 at the Colorado Convention Center, Denver.

Closing keynote speaker will be Ed Lu, Ph.D., Google program manager in advanced projects. Lu leads a team of engineers working to develop Google PowerMeter, an energy information software tool that will enable consumers to make informed choices about their energy use as they browse the Web, read email, or use a mobile phone.

Prior to his position with Google, Lu was a NASA astronaut for 12 years. He manned two space shuttle missions, a Russian Soyuz mission, and spent a six-month tour on board the International Space Station. Lu is an electrical engineer with a Ph.D. in applied physics, with a specialty in theoretical astrophysics.

Featured opening session speaker will be Daniel Burrus, leading technology futurist and business strategist. He is author of six books, including the highly acclaimed “Technotrends,” which has been translated into more than 12 languages. Burrus is founder and CEO of Burrus Research, a research and consulting firm that monitors global advancements in science and technology-driven trends to better understand how technological, social and business forces are converging to create untapped opportunities.

Other Autovation® 2009 subject areas include: smart-energy strategy, smart networks, meter data management, home-area networks, operations, demand-response energy efficiency, telecom and cyber-security.

In addition, more than 80 vendors will be displaying their latest innovative technologies and services in the exhibit hall.
