Bangalore, September 23, 2009: India Semiconductor Association (ISA) the premier trade body representing the semiconductor industry in the country, is organizing a business delegation visit to the UK from September 28 to October 2, 2009. Led by Dr. Omkar Rai, Senior Director, Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) Department of Information and Technology, Ministry of Communication & IT, Government of India, the delegation includes hardware design and embedded software companies such as Wipro, TCS, Circuitsutra, CMC, KPITCummins, Smartplay Technologies, SiWays Microelectronics, United Telecom Ltd. and Vayavya Labs.

The highlight of the delegation is the visit to the Cambridge Cluster and the conference on ‘Semiconductor SIG: Entrance Strategies: Resourcing Early Stage Innovation’.

The primary objective of this initiative is to create a common platform for chip design & embedded software companies in India and to collaborate with the product and services segments in the UK market. Recently, the ISA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UK Trade & investment to promote and develop the semiconductor industries in their respective domains through Global Value Chain GVC Partnerships. The UKTI’s GVC program is a unique initiative, which matches Indian businesses with the best UK technology firms to seize new business opportunities together.

The potential collaboration between the design companies in the two countries was gauged following a May 2008 study “Scope for collaboration between India and the UK in semiconductor driven industry 2008″. Released by the ISA, UKTI and Science & Innovation Network (SIN) established that UK and Indian semiconductor firms can collaborate to boost India’s IP creation and build next-generation products.
