Bangalore, October 12, 2009: The India Semiconductor Association (ISA) the premier trade body representing the semiconductor industry in the country, recently led a delegation to the United Kingdom in association with the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).
The fundamental objective of this initiative was to create a suitable platform for collaboration for chip design & embedded software companies in both geographies. Key highlights included UK-India seminars and networking events that were organized in association with Silicon South West, South West Regional Development Agency and East of England International.
Poornima Shenoy, President, ISA said, “The ISA UK mission provided a good overview of UK’s semiconductor industry, technology initiatives and related research projects to our Indian semiconductor/embedded design solution companies. There were interactions with potential customers from UK that are likely to be formalized into business engagements shortly.”
UK-India bilateral trade is worth £12.6 billion with double-digit growth in 2008. UK’s exports to India rose in 2008 to £5.9 billion while imports in 2008 to £6.2 billion. Hence there is an opportunity for UK companies to look at India as a ‘new growth market’. Potential exists for Indian companies to partner with UK companies to successfully innovate and be competitive in the global marketplace.
The delegation was led by Dr. Omkar Rai, Senior Director, Software Technology Parks of India. Leading companies from India representing the delegation include, Chipwerks, CircuitSutra, CMC, KPIT Cummins, Smartplay Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services TCS, Vayavya Labs and Wipro & United Technologies Ltd.
