Seagate Portable Storage Solutions Dominate PC Magazine Roundup

Seagate Technology (NYSE: STX) announced today that its Seagate 160GB Portable Hard Drive won an Editors’ Choice Award from PC Magazine, one of the world’s leading personal technology publications, and its Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition earned the number two spot in the publication’s recent review of portable storage and backup solutions. The dual-brand, best-in-class recognition highlights the largest and most diverse family of storage and automatic backup solutions for consumers, small business users and creative professionals on the market today.

“With our expansive family of award-winning Seagate and Maxtor branded solutions, we are well positioned to capitalize on the rapidly growing need for storing, organizing, backing up, sharing and managing digital content,” said Jim Druckrey, senior vice president and general manager, Seagate Branded Solutions. “Earning PC Magazine’s number one and two spots reflects our legacy of ingenuity and leadership in delivering the most powerful, intuitive and easy-to-use storage and backup solutions on the market.”

Taking home the Editors’ Choice Award, the Seagate 160GB Portable Hard Drive is the industry’s first mobile storage solution with perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR), a technology that delivers better reliability and faster performance, making it ideal for applications withstanding high temperature and extreme operating environments. With its durable aluminum enclosure, the portable solution provides 30 percent more capacity than comparable-sized drives, the highest capacity in a 2.5-inch external hard drive, enabling PC and Mac users to store and carry a massive array of digital music, photos, videos, games, and business files in a sleek, ruggedized package that weighs less than one pound. The Seagate Portable Hard Drive is the perfect solution to safely and securely take work or play on the road.

“Between the cross-platform capabilities, the best-of-class capacity and the intelligent cable design, the Seagate 160GB portable drive truly earns the Editors’ Choice,” said PC Magazine lead analyst Joel Santo Domingo in his August 21 review article. Awarding the solution four and a half out of five stars, Santo Domingo remarked: “If you need to back up a lot of data from a desktop or a notebook, and if you need that data to go, this is the drive to buy.”
