The Connectivity Scorecard wins International Development category at the SUPERCOMM 2009 EOS Awards

Groundbreaking study shows how countries can enhance their social and economic prosperity through effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)

The Connectivity Scorecard has won the International Development category at the SUPERCOMM 2009 EOS Awards. The study is the first to evaluate how ‘useful connectivity’ impacts countries’ social and economic development. Useful connectivity is a combination of the availability of ICT infrastructure and the extent to which governments, businesses and consumers put it to good use.

The Connectivity Scorecard covers 50 countries around the world*. It was commissioned by Nokia Siemens Networks and written by Professor Leonard Waverman, Fellow of the London Business School, with the consulting group LECG.

Through the Connectivity Scorecard, a country is able to effectively assess its resource allocations among varying sectors, determine if its infrastructure investment is at par with the current user needs, and measure its success in enabling adequate levels of access and use of key technologies.

The International Development category was new this year at the SUPERCOMM 2009 EOS Awards.

About the Connectivity Scorecard
Connectivity Scorecard is a global ICT index, which measures the extent to which governments, businesses and consumers in 50 countries around the world make use of connectivity technologies to enhance social and economic prosperity. Unlike other research available, Connectivity Scorecard also measures “usage and skills,” such as literacy, the use of enterprise software and the accessibility of women to ICT.

Nokia Siemens Networks has commissioned the study, which is the first of its kind to rank countries not only on their deployment of ICT infrastructure but also on the extent to which people, governments and businesses put this infrastructure to economically productive use.

The study is created by Leonard Waverman, Fellow of the London Business School and Professor and Dean at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, and conducted under his direction by international economic consulting firm LECG.
