- Uses pill dosing technology, and the Mercury content is well below the European regulatory norms. approx. 1/4th of stipulated under traditional manufacturing process with the use of liquid Mercury.
New Delhi, January 2010: Havells India Ltd, a US$1 billion plus company and one of the largest and fastest growing electrical and lighting companies in the world, has introduced a new range of energy saving CFLs with “HPF†(High Power Factor >0.85) Integral ballasts, which are more energy efficient and eco-friendly comparison to normal CFLs. This innovative product is definitely going to pave the way for environmental protection which has become the buzzword in the contemporary period. Currently, the regulatory norms in force into Europe pertaining to CFLs, the mercury content should be below 5 mg.
The conventional compact florescent lamps (CFLs) and incandescent bulbs (GLS) consume more real power as compared to HPF CFLs. Ordinary CFLs have the power factor of 0.55. This means the loss of nearly 30% due to poor power factor is born by the Electricity Distribution Company (Utility Company).
As the GLS lamps has a shorter life and poor efficacy (Lm/W) to CFL lamps, these increases social cost by increasing pollution. Same is the case with conventional CFL having about 30% losses added to the distribution system, the is a over burden to the generation stations. This saved power will result to improve your life as this will result to reduce power cut or to improve industrialization and help India to grow faster. When it comes to disposal of used CFLs, it becomes an environmental threat as the conventional production methods using uncontrolled amount of liquid mercury posing a great threat to flora and fauna. The extra mercury is also a major factor to pollute the environment, being Havells a socially responsible manufacturer to save the environment for tomorrow, has adopted PDT to supply the lamps to their customers with highest product standards, those are applicable to the Europe.
In such a scenario, Energy utilities and CFL manufacturing companies should focus more on encouraging the use of HPF CFLs due to global trend of energy saving and environment sustainability. Moreover, very few people know that utility company sends out the same amount of power to a 25-watt CFL as it does to a 50 watt incandescent lamp while using a lamp with power factor 0.5, while you only use and pay for the 25 watts, your utility company still has to produce and transfer the 50 watts. The unused power, known as reactive power, is partially wasted in the process of being transferred and re-transferred, and takes a toll on the infrastructure of the distribution system — overheating of transformers, cables and motors, premature aging of capacitors, and interference with telecom systems, this results to breakdown, Basically, our grids are designed to carry a certain type of energy (linear), and don’t provide power effectively to other kinds of energy demands (electronic).
These state of art quality HPF CFLs are designed in such a manner that it reduces power wastage and enhances the network capacity required for incandescent lighting. Moreover, these newer HPF CFL lamps contain less mercury which is the best and Eco-friendly option. We wish to mention here that every saving to the power will result to lease emission of pollutants like CO2 and mercury emitted by the thermal power plants, during power generation.
