South Asia summit on e-Government to begin in capital from October 26

New Delhi October 9, 2006 More than 200 experts from India and abroad will take part in the three day international meet on e-Governance Summit “e-GovWorld 2006″ to begin in capital from October 26.

The summit being organized by the Society for Promotion of e-Governance will feature discussion of e-Government cooperation mechanisms, pro- poor e-Governance strategies and mobile governance in developing nations from South Asia region.

Mr Vikas Kanungo, convenor of the summit said ‘ As more and more countries in Asia have begun charting and implementing their national e-Governance plans, there is felt a strong need to cooperate with other nations and replicate good projects for success thus necessitating the need for institutional mechanisms for cooperation among countries. This is the predominant issue that will be discussed by the representatives from South Asia, Europe , Africa and USA during a three day South Asia e-Government Summit”

The summit is co hosted by The Society for Promotion of e-Governance, UNDP-APDIP, Danish Technological Institute and Tetra Information Services. The event is supported by Department of Information Technology, Government of India, NIC Government of India and The World Bank.

Mr. R. Chandrashekhar from DIT Government of India, has led efforts to create a shared vision for technology and management strategies by working across organizational boundaries to champion organizational and technological innovation, promote common interests, and support the core missions National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). Prominent experts Shekhar Shah, Chief Economic Advisor, The World Bank, Wajahat Habibullah, Chief Information Commissioner Government of India and Maxine Olson , UN resident coordinator , India have confirmed their participation in the keynote session of the summit. Other presenters at e-GovWorld 2006 include Mary Ann Fisher from IBM USA, Danese Cooper from Intel USA, Shahid Akhtar from UNDP-APDIP , Neelam Dhawan from Microsoft India and Jeremy Millard from Danish Technological Institute among many other speakers.
