Google Announces Education News at Educause

This week, at the Educause tradeshow in Dallas, Google is introducing new ways that educational institutions can use Google technologies to power communication, collaboration and search for their campus communities. These updates include new features of Google Apps for Education, as well as new partnerships for our search products.

Since launching Google Apps for Your Domain at the end of August, tens of thousands of businesses and schools have begun using Google’s communication applications for free. The service requires no hardware or software other than a standard internet browser, and the user interfaces can be customized easily by each organization. In one of the largest implementations of Google Apps for Education, starting today Arizona State University will transition the university’s campus community of more than 65,000 students to Google’s customizable email, calendar and instant messaging tools.

At Educause, Google is also announcing the beta release of APIs that make it easier for organizations to integrate their user directory, single sign-on systems, and mail gateways with Google Apps for Education. Schools such as Arizona State University have already integrated into Google Apps for Education through this API.
