GOOGLE APPOINTS DR. PRASAD BHAARAT RAM TO HEAD R&D OPERATIONS IN BANGALORE

Appointment Underscores Company’s Continued Investment in India and Commitment to its World-Class Research and Development Centre in Bangalore

MUMBAI – October 16, 2006 – Google Inc. today announced that respected computer scientist Dr. Prasad Bhaarat Ram has been appointed to head up engineering and site operations at the company’s R&D center in Bangalore. Dr. Ram, whose appointment is effective immediately, will lead engineering operations and product innovation at the centre.

“Dr. Prasad Ram brings to Google a wealth of experience in technology development and organization building, as well as a deep knowledge of the local Indian market,” said Alan Eustace, vice president of Engineering at Google. “Under the leadership of Prasad, the Google India R&D center will develop even more innovative products and technologies for millions of Google users in India and around the world.”

Prasad has over 15 years experience in computer science research and engineering, and has worked extensively in software and online industries. Prior to joining Google, Prasad was Chief Technology Office at Yahoo! India Research and Development in Bangalore, India. Prasad started his career as a research scientist at Xerox PARC and has a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT-Bombay and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

“It is a great opportunity to join Google and be involved with a company that places such great value on innovation and creativity,” said Dr. Prasad Ram. “By building on the already strong talent that exists at Google Bangalore, the centre will continue to build innovative global products as well as to bring new ideas to better serve our Indian users.”

Bangalore was among Google’s first global engineering offices, which now include Tokyo, Japan, Zurich, Switzerland, Beijing, China, Moscow, Russia and Sydney, Australia. Engineers at Google’s worldwide R&D centres have a broad charter to innovate and develop new product ideas, just like those based in Google’s Mountain View, California headquarters. As with all of its R&D centers, Google will continue to look for the best talent in India to join the Google team.
