D-LINK Announces Safeguard Engine™ For Xstack And Web Smart Switches; Stops Traffic Caused By Outside Attacks

D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers and business, today announced its Safeguard Engine™ technology is now built into the company’s next-generation xStack™ and Web Smart™ switches, providing improved performance and uptime for business networks by automatically stopping unnecessary traffic caused by a malicious attack from effecting normal data traffic flow.

The powerful D-Link Safeguard Engine uses a combination of software, hardware and firmware to automatically prioritize and throttle network traffic so necessary data traffic flows smoothly while high volumes of data packets caused by computer worms and viruses, identified as unwanted and potentially dangerous, are blocked at the switch. When networks are bombarded with packet requests stemming from a malicious attack, system administrators often find network switches randomly malfunctioning, with no response to the network management system or, worst case, rebooting continuously.

The Safeguard Engine works with the D-Link switches’ built-in access control lists (ACLs) and other access control mechanisms to ensure that all network systems maintain their highest performance levels by assigning appropriate priorities to all network traffic, preventing the system from acknowledging packets caused by worms, viruses and other invaders that can cause network gridlock.
