Seagate Offers Grants to Science Teachers in St. Vrain and Boulder Valley School Districts; Application Deadline is November 10
Seagate Technology invites middle- and high-school science teachers in the St. Vrain Valley and Boulder Valley School Districts to apply for grants of up to $2,000 for hands-on science programs to be used in the classroom from January – June 2007. The Seagate Technology – Science Teacher Grant program is designed to support teachers’ efforts to bring science to life in the classroom through hands-on applications of scientific principles. Areas of science considered in this grant program include: biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, astronomy and space travel, meteorology and oceanography.
“While the ultimate goal of this program is to educate and inspire young people to excel in science – and perhaps pursue a degree in engineering – the first step is providing talented and enthusiastic teachers with the resources they need to make this happen,” said Andy Davis, Seagate vice president of design engineering. “We’re pleased to offer such resources to the teachers in our community.”
The Seagate Technology – Science Teacher Grant program will be awarded to programs or projects that present an original, creative and innovative teaching approach that addresses student need. Programs must also have a measurable approach and clearly defined process to evaluate success in at least one of the following areas: student understanding of scientific principles; academic achievement; and achievement of motivational goals (increased participation in extra-credit classroom exercises, science fairs and other extracurricular science programs/activities). The project must tie into existing curriculum for the school, include a realistic timeline for accomplishing the project within the school year and have an appropriate budget.
