BM Internet Security Systems General Manager, Thomas Noonan, Inducted into Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia
IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Thomas Noonan, general manager of its Internet Security Systems division, has been inducted into the Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia. At a black tie event on Saturday, November 4 at Georgia Tech, Noonan joined the ranks of a distinguished group of pioneers and innovators who have helped shape the development of technology and industry in Georgia.
“My colleagues and I have worked tirelessly for the past 12 years to make our company the most trusted brand for enterprise security in the world,” said Noonan. “It is gratifying for all of us to see that a respected organization like the Technology Hall of Fame is validating our accomplishments.”
Along with founder Chris Klaus, Noonan launched Atlanta-based Internet Security Systems (ISS) in 1994. Under his leadership as president and CEO of the company, ISS revenue soared to nearly $330 million dollars in its first decade. At the time of IBM’s acquisition of ISS on October 20, 2006, the company had grown to 1,300 employees in more than 35 offices in 20 countries worldwide.
In 2002, President Bush appointed Noonan to serve on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC), a homeland defense initiative that protects information systems that are critical to the nation’s infrastructure. In this role, Noonan has advised the government on cyber security issues. In July 2006, he addressed a subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs to encourage a more collaborative environment between government and private sector to jointly answer issues relating to the nation’s critical networked infrastructure.
