Wax Info Enters China

Wax info secures strategic distribution alliance for the supply of ActiveLibrary to Japanese companies in China

Cambridge, UK and Tokyo, Japan – 09 November 2006 – Cambridge-based Wax info Ltd, www.waxinfo.com, a leading developer of secure distributed content management software, announced today that it is entering the Chinese software market. Wax info is forming a strategic alliance with Shanghai Xindi Computer Co. Ltd, China and Global Systems Inc, of Yokohama, Japan to market the Japanese version of ActiveLibrary 4.0 to Japanese enterprises operating in China.

This alliance extends Wax info’s international market reach to target approximately 100,000 Japanese firms operating in China, including over 10,000 firms in Shanghai around the headquarters of Xindi Computer Co.

Global Systems and Xindi Computer are sister companies specialising in the provision of development services to Japanese firms operating in China. Mr Uno, CEO of Global Systems, said, “With the ever-growing need to protect intellectual property rights, there is a great need for secure knowledge management products in China.”

With a focus on access control, information security, compliance and personal information privacy, ActiveLibrary has the security features that are now being demanded by Japanese companies and which have prevented many of Wax’s competitors from progressing sales in the extremely demanding Japanese enterprise market.

Xindi and Global Systems will start a direct sales campaign of Active Library in Shanghai immediately.

Mr. Nigel Spence, Chief Executive Officer of Wax info Limited, added, “This alliance is a watershed in our business development efforts in Japan. It reflects the high degree of confidence that our Japanese partners have developed in the quality and functionality of the ActiveLibrary product range.”

Brief history of Wax info

Wax info Limited was formed in 1997, when “spun-off” from The University of Cambridge, UK. In early 2000, Wax info received venture capital funding from the Hong Kong-Shanghai Banking Corporation’s (HSBC) Enterprise Fund, which is managed by Cambridge-based Egan & Talbot Capital Limited. Originally innovated by Wax info’s co-founder Dr. Iain Buchan in 1992, his vision was to create the means to distribute electronic guidelines to general practitioners (GPs) in the UK. Documents were presented electronically, with contents pages and indices.

Studies later conducted in the University of Cambridge proved that this system delivered timely, accurate information to doctors in a way they understood and used. With the increasing use of the Internet, it became clear that it would be more efficient to distribute the electronic documents via a network. The second version of Wax ActiveLibrary (Wax 2.3) was developed in the Medical Informatics Unit of Cambridge University, under the leadership of Wax info’s co-founder Professor Rudolf Hanka. This version allowed users to access networked electronic libraries, and to “borrow” documents for their own personal use.

In 2000, the UK National Health Service’s Electronic Library of Health designated Wax ActiveLibrary an Approved Delivery Medium.
