Nintendo Fans Show More Than A Touch Of Creativity

Some were touching, some needed touch-ups and others were just, well, touched. Nintendo’s Touching is Good contest produced more than 1,000 original photos and videos of mannequin hands in action. The winners, and some of the more interesting entries, are now on display at www.touchingisgood.com. They prove once again that Nintendo has some of the most loyal and creative fans on the planet.

Most of the entries included at least one of the nearly 7,700 mannequin hands that Nintendo sent out for free before supplies ran out. Others included paper versions of hands or just creative riffs on the Touching is Good theme. The contest highlighted the unique touch-screen abilities of Nintendo DSâ„¢. Submissions ranged from the serious to the silly, from artistic to downright confusing.

Steve Barnes of Bellingham, Wash., won the grand prize for his video, “Touching is Good in Video Games,” a fruit-tossing farce that brings video game powers into the real world. Barnes will receive $1,000 in cash, a Nintendo DS system and four DS video games.

Eric Garrison of Modesto, Calif., won first prize for his photo, “Touch! Jungle Beat,” which shows a mannequin hand tapping a DK Bongos controller, complete with a real gorilla in the background. Garrison will receive $500 cash and a Nintendo DS.
