Cingular Increases Delaware Cell Coverage
Cingular Wireless, the nation’s largest wireless carrier, has turned on nine new cell sites providing enhanced coverage in Kent, New Castle and Sussex Counties. The company is spending $225 million this year on many network improvements including the addition of 100 new cell sites, as well as back-up generators and batteries throughout Delaware, southern New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania.
“We are absolutely committed to providing our customers in Delaware with the best network coverage and the highest quality wireless service,” said Dan Lafond, Cingular Wireless vice president and general manager, Greater Philadelphia. “Over the last two years we have invested $400 million and turned on 200 new cell sites for our customers in Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.”
Additionally Cingular has an interactive mapping tool designed to answer customers’ specific coverage questions based on their address, street intersection, zip code or even a landmark. It enables customers to view their Cingular wireless coverage all the way down to the neighborhood street level while depicting the likelihood of coverage in various scenarios — such as inside a building. This interactive information is available at all company retail locations, online at http://www.cingular.com/coverageviewer or by calling 1-866-CINGULAR.
The company’s network growth relies on advanced GSM/EDGE/UMTS technology. GSM is the world standard for wireless communication, used by more than 2 billion people in 200-plus countries. Cingular customers can make calls in nearly 190 countries and access data services in more than 115 countries.
