Motorola Enters Agreement to License Technology for Multiple Fan Cooling Arrangements

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that it has entered into a licensing agreement with Pentair Electronic Packaging Company for multiple fan cooling module technology that is useful in infrastructure equipment. The licensed technology, which is used in Pentair’s Schroff brand of products and is contained in U.S. Patent 6,813,152 and applicable counterparts, involves a method of orienting multiple cooling fans to allow a portion of airflow to pass through and around a successive fan in the arrangement, which may be referred to as “hybrid serial parallel” cooling.

According to the terms of the agreement, Pentair Electronic Packaging grants Motorola and its subsidiaries a non-exclusive, worldwide license under the Licensed Patents to manufacture, import, sell, offer for sale and otherwise distribute the technology in licensed products. The United States patent for this technology went into effect in 2004.
