CA’s $500,000 Donation to Benefit NFTE Offices in New York City And Worldwide

CA and the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) joined with New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein today to announce a new global education partnership designed to expand youth entrepreneurship education in public schools. The partnership will consist of a $500,000 donation from CA to NFTE that will be used to help promote youth entrepreneurship education programs in New York City and other cities in the United States as well as abroad in the United Kingdom and South Africa. CA’s donation will help NFTE reach over 32,000 young people in the school year which will bring the nonprofit closer to its goal of serving 100,000 young people globally each year through its partnerships by the year 2012.

“We are appreciative of the work that NFTE is doing in our schools to promote entrepreneurial and business education,” commented NYC Schools Chancellor Klein. “CA’s donation will help NFTE provide more young people in our community with the critical skills they need to be successful later in life.”

Originally intended to be a dropout prevention program, NFTE’s entrepreneurship education program teaches low-income students the business skills they need to start their own small business, while reinforcing basic academic proficiency. NFTE’s goal is to give young people the skills and confidence to unlock their true potential, so they can improve their lives and communities. Through NFTE, students learn how to create a business plan, keep books, and master other business fundamentals. A recent Harvard University research study also indicated that youth entrepreneurship programs such as NFTE are particularly effective at keeping students from low-income, urban backgrounds on track academically.
