BAX Global Expands Services Contract with AT&T

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) announced today that BAX Global has extended its relationship with AT&T with a 24-month $5 million contract. The contract includes Internet Protocol (IP)-enabled Frame Relay (IPeFR) and IP-enabled ATM (IPeATM), using Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology and includes long distance voice and professional services. The solution provided by AT&T will help BAX improve its network infrastructure to support BAX’s future communications needs and to maintain a high level of network performance.

BAX offers its customers a wide array of comprehensive supply-chain solutions, as varied as warehousing and inventory management, order fulfillment and transportation optimization to sequencing, postponement and customs compliance. With AT&T technology, BAX’s customers are able to track their freight online and obtain status reports to determine when shipments will arrive.

Because BAX wished to connect all of its North American locations, AT&T leveraged BAX’s existing AT&T MPLS network to connect the remaining sites, resulting in a more efficient means to move data. The MPLS backbone allows BAX to move to advanced technologies, such as IP Telephony (IPT). AT&T will also design and implement an IPT system and provide IPT equipment to BAX, allowing the company to lower operational costs while handling calls more efficiently and increasing worker productivity.

“We have been pleased with the solutions that AT&T has provided us in the past and felt confident that they would continue to provide superior service when we were ready to connect our remaining North American offices,” said Bill Sawtell, BAX’s vice president, IT Infrastructure and Service Delivery. “We are especially satisfied with AT&T’s ability to offer a combination of MPLS and IPT, which will allow us to plan and prepare for disaster recovery and business continuity across our 130 locations in the U.S. and Canada. Our ability to operate under any circumstances will provide our customers with the peace of mind that their shipments will be tracked and delivered safely, especially in extreme conditions.”
