Kodak Gains Momentum Heading into 2007 with 18 Thermal CTP Devices Placed in Scripps, Ogden, Transcontinental Atlantic and Independent Newspapers

Twelve different newspaper printers from Newfoundland to Hawaii have selected KODAK thermal computer to plate (CTP), workflow, screening and digital printing solutions as they look to boost productivity and drive profitability heading into 2007.
In all, Kodak received orders for 18 KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS CTP devices and three KODAK VERSAMARK Printing Systems, along with digital plates, workflow software and screening.

The Honolulu Advertiser, a Gannett newspaper and already a Kodak customer for prepress, CTP and workflow, purchased three KODAK VERSAMARK DS5120 Digital Printing Systems to address micro zoned products. “With the VERSAMARK Printing Systems, we’ll now be able to address directly onto our TMC (Total Market Coverage) publications instead of using separate detached label cards. By eliminating the “d-cards” and the additional handling due to outsourcing the mailing of our TMC, we’ll not only save time and money, but we’ll have greater control over the product,” said Ron Marasco, Packaging and Assembly Manager at The Honolulu Advertiser.

“The speed and quality of the KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS Platesetter will put us in the 21st century,” said Robert Aguilar, President/Publisher of Scripps Texas Newspapers L.P., which prints The San Angelo Standard-Times, a weekly direct mailer and a variety of commercial projects. “The workflow software was a big selling point because the KODAK PRINERGY EVO Software will allow us to catch errors on the fly and it won’t slow us down in making plates. That will make our operation run more smoothly.”

In addition to the TRENDSETTER NEWS 70 Thermal Platesetter and PRINERGY EVO Software, Scripps Texas Newspapers in San Angelo purchased KODAK THERMALNEWS Digital Plates, KODAK PREPS Imposition Software and KODAK STACCATO Screening. Also at the Scripps Texas Newspapers location in Wichita Falls, the company purchased a TRENDSETTER NEWS 70 CTP device and THERMALNEWS Digital Plates to print the Wichita Falls Times Record News and other products.
