Jaguars, Colts, Bears, Sharks Converge At The Weekly Google Zeitgeist
This week people searching on Google.com zeroed in on sports, in particular U.S. football and tennis. The [Jacksonville Jaguars] garnered some attention when defensive tackle John Henderson was picked to replace the Patriots Richard Seymour in the Pro Bowl. The [Indianapolis Colts] are headed to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1971, pitted against the [Chicago Bears]. Nets fans focused on the [Australian Open], whose January 27 finals saw Serena Williams emerge victorious over Maria Sharapova.
The (blood?) sport of politics also saw Zeitgeist action this week. N.Y. Senator [Hillary Clinton] declared her intention to run via a webcast; many citizens tuned in to the annual [State of the Union] address. Another seasonal pastime, the film awards marathon, continued apace with the announcement of this year’s [Oscar nominations]. Music fans checked out the just-announced lineup of performers at [Coachella], a popular California desert music and arts event coming up in April. Nostalgic TV watchers paid homage to [Ron Carey], the “Barney Miller” character who died at age 71. And many Google searchers just had to find out what the heck a [frilled shark] is, as pictures emerged from a Japan sighting of this prehistoric, deep-sea swimmer.
For breaking news and obscure information alike, people around the world search on Google. What follows is a summary of Google Zeitgeist results for the top gainers on Google.com, when comparing search queries that have risen by a significant percentage for the week of January 21-27, 2007.
