DEMO 07 Conference Celebrates the Empowered Individual

Conference to Introduce 68 Powerful Business and Consumer Technologies

The DEMO 07 stage program opened today in Palm Desert, launching 68 new personal and corporate computing technologies into the marketplace. Now in its 17th year, the DEMO conferences are proven forums for catapulting products, ideas, and startups into the national consciousness. DEMO 07, which kicked off last night with a lively welcome reception, will conclude Thursday night after an information-packed day full of live product demonstrations and industry analysis.

Chris Shipley, product analyst and DEMO executive producer, took the stage this morning to welcome the DEMO audience and offer her analysis of the state of the technology industry, noting that individuals have become an incredibly powerful influence on the design and adoption of new technology. Her keynote address also emphasized the strength of innovation across the spectrum of the industry, from consumer hardware to enterprise software, from user interface design to business process automation.

“Everyday people have become incredibly powerful because of the technology they use every day,” said Shipley. “Over the past 24 months, a confluence of factors has conspired to put individuals at the center of the technology universe. Web-delivered applications let you decide which tools you’ll use for work and for play. IP telephony and near-ubiquitous wireless connectivity are transforming voice and phone into an application platform that keeps you connected and informed. A host of beautifully designed services allow you to reach out to millions of fellow consumers with the click of a button. Throughout this conference, you’ll see many facets of these trends and begin to understand how the empowered consumer changes everything.”

Following Shipley’s address, 15 companies presented their innovations live on stage, demonstrating the benefits and problem-solving value of their technologies. According to DEMO tradition, each company had six minutes to demonstrate its product to a packed ballroom full of industry insiders, savvy business people, and the critical eye of the nation’s press. Exercise Your Creativity

The DEMO program went on to explore tools for everyday people to use to create and publish video, print, music and advertising. “Today’s technology consumer has the ambition and the tools to publish their musings, e-sell their art, collaborate on music, and, in every way, put their creative selves online,” said Shipley. “At DEMO, powerful new technologies are making this process more attractive for both the creator and the consumer.” Companies launching technologies in this category were:

Bling Software, Inc. — Bling Player allows consumers to enjoy visually stunning and data-rich Web content without the slow response time typically found in today’s mobile offerings.
