Bytemobile and Opera Software partner to deliver open Internet access on mass-market mobile devices

Bytemobile, Inc. and Opera Software ASA today announced a joint development and marketing agreement for dynamic content adaptation solutions that will provide fast, full Internet access on mobile phones and other mass-market devices. Under the agreement, the two companies will integrate Opera Mini™ browser transcoding technology with Bytemobile’s Unison™ multi-service optimization platform. This will provide mobile network operators with the first carrier-grade, commercial infrastructure solution offering full-HTML web browsing to their handset subscribers.

Since its launch in January 2006, the Opera Mini browser has been deployed on the mobile phones of more than 10 million users worldwide. Within the Unison architecture, Opera Mini content adaptation technology will enable network operators to enhance the mobile user experience with fast web access on any device, anywhere, via server-based and client-server browsing. The agreement announced today continues a partnership between Bytemobile and Opera that began with embedded browser optimization (EBO) for the Opera Mobile browser in January 2006.

“This is a strategic partnership of two industry leaders, leveraging the technological innovation and global market footprint of Opera in web browsing and Bytemobile in Internet services optimization,” said Timo Bruns, executive vice president, Business Development, at Opera. “Together, we have the opportunity to quickly reach the subscribers of Bytemobile’s global customer base of more than 70 top-tier operators with superior handset browsing solutions.”

“The Opera partnership is a key element of our strategy for delivering the Internet to any mobile device,” said Adrian Hall, vice president of Marketing and Business Development at Bytemobile. “This is an important breakthrough for mobile consumers who want to expand their daily web experience from the laptop to the ‘any time, anywhere’ mobility of the handset”.
