Person of the Year Award to Jagdish Khattar: Auto Monitor

Jagdish Khattar, Managing Director, Maruti Udyog Ltd. was conferred with most prestigious, Person of the Year Award by Auto Monitor, India’s first B2B publication at the well-attended function in Delhi yesterday. This is an attempt to acknowledge his contribution to the automotive industry in the year gone by.

These Awards, now in its third year, honour the best in automotive excellence, and were given out in eight categories including Human Resource Initiative of the Year, Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of the Year, Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year, Auto Component Manufacturer of the Year, Young Achiever of the Year and two special Awards — Car Manufacturer of the Year and Bike Manufacturer of the Year Award. Auto Monitor had invited entries from companies across the country for the Young Achiever of the Year Award. The jury deliberated on the various entries received, but found none suitable to be conferred with the honour this year.

In his address, Prakash Iyer, Managing Director, Infomedia India Ltd urged the Indian auto industry to continue being focussed and said this is the best among many industry sectors that has helped the Indian economy prosper.

While Metzler Automotive Profiles India Ltd bagged the Human Resources Initiative of the Year Award, Mahindra & Mahindra won the Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Award for its project Nanhi Kali — a KC Mahindra Education Trust project for the under privileged girl child. Volvo India won the honour of Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year. Minda Industries Ltd bagged the Auto Component Manufacturer of the Year Award. Bajaj Auto Ltd was declared the Bike Manufacturer of the Year, while Maruti Udyog Ltd won the Car Manufacturer of the Year Award.

Madhur Bajaj, President, SIAM and Vice Chairman Bajaj Auto Ltd and Raghu Mody, President, ACMA, who were present on the occasion to honour the winners, congratulated them on their achievements. The glittering function, which was preceded by the Auto Monitor Conclave, was attended by the czars of auto industry, key policy makers and other important dignitaries. The event offered a heady mix of entertainment and information to the attendees. While eminent speakers offered diverse perspectives on the umbrella theme — Innovation in Indian Automotive Sector — The Road Ahead, a fusion concert by Delhi-based Mrigya and Russian ballet performance had the audience enthralled.

The Auto Monitor Awards and Conclave were supported by industry body’s viz. ACMA (Auto Component Manufacturers Association), CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) & SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) Exchange4media and Businessworld were the official media partners for the event.

Auto Monitor Awards were instituted in 2005 to recognise and honour the contributions made by companies in various fields. In a very short span of time they have come to be recognised as the most distinguished and most coveted award, which honours the best the Indian automotive industry has to offer. The judging process was validated by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India. The Awards and Conclave was sponsored by Henkel Technologies.
